Biography
I am currently a retired teacher who substitutes in Comal ISD. All told I have been in education
otherwise known as the “kid business” for 40 years. Helping and encouraging people to pull together and to work together for the good of everyone is important to me.
Goal for the Canyon Springs Resort POA
I ran for a Director position on the Board to volunteer my service to revive and restore the POA to its former glory knowing the work will take several years. This will require modernizing and updating our amenities over time and engaging our Community of Property Owners in the Association to becoming a part of something bigger than any of us in order for this to happen or the greater good of all.
Why the Chapter 11 reorganization was undertaken
My wife an I chose to be a part of this Association when we purchased our lot to build on and after a year and a half, I ran for a spot on the Board of Directors after attending several meetings. After attending just a few meetings, I became acutely aware that there were many difficulties generating operating expenses and for maintenance and repair that was being prevented by antiquated documents which were restricting the operation of the POA by a limit of posed by a document requiring only $18 per year that had been in place for 60 years. Asking for additional elective assessments to supplement operations has showed a very low participation rate and so I ran and was elected to the Board. Working with others on the Board, I learned of the dire financial problems facing the POA and the need to bring our documents up to date in order to begin the process of restoring and revitalizing our Association to comply with current State regulations. As part of this reorganization, a Plan was created with input from the community in order to do this over time. This action has been badly needed for decades, and it was undertaken in order to save the Association and return it to a new beginning with sound footing. There are some property owners who would prefer for the POA to become financially insolvent for personal reasons of their own, and this Reorganization will provide a template and guideline for the survival and rebuilding of our Association over time.
